Our vision is to see Christ's prayer answered as recorded in John 17, that those who believe in him might be one as He and the Father are one. We see clearly that in Christ there is no "Jew or Gentile," but rather we are all one.
Therefore, it is our desire to see unity fostered in the lives of true believers all over the world. One of the best ways to foster unity is through discussion. We are committed to providing forums and helping to create atmospheres in which tough issues can be discussed and reconciliation achieved through the help of the Holy Spirit.
The History of Antioch
The founders of Antioch Incorporated (functioning as Antioch Intentional Communities in Massachusetts) met while attending Bethel College in Mishawka, Indiana. They began meeting with the administration as a result of racial tension on
campus. The solution of the problems discussed in the meetings was the creation of
a program entitled The House of Higher (HHL). The HHL was an intentional
community that dealt with spiritual, cross-cultural and cross gender reconciliation.
Upon graduation several members of this program continued to work
towards bettering cultural, race and gender relations in their own communities, as
well as abroad. This continued work led to the creation of Antioch. John Runyon,
Ryan Flemming and Theodore Williams were especially instrumental in the
conception and birth of Antioch. They used their relationships, resources and
finances to make their collective vision, become a reality.
Soon after the vision and purpose of Antioch was established, Ivelda
Lugo, Eon Johnson and Stacia Birdsall (who served one term) were welcomed as board
members. Ivelda and Eon were also key persons in the development and success of the
HHL. As a result they were natural selections to be a part of the Antioch family.
We are slowly building a multi-ethnic, multi-gifted board with a broad range of
experience addressing reconciliation questions.
The original home office for Antioch was in Michigan City, Indiana.
However, the then president of the organization and the board, Theodore
Williams moved to Lynn, Massachusetts. The locus of operation moved with him, and
our Indiana office was soon transferred to Gary, IN under Ryan Flemming's care. The
move was not the only change. Mr. Williams also stepped down as chairman of the board
and Eon Johnson was elected to that vacant office. As the President of the Board
works at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana, Antioch also has a presence on that
campus.
Antioch through word and deed has committed to carry out the ministry of
reconciliation that God has called us to. We are a young organization and our history
is brief, however we trust that in time we will not only have a history marked by
longevity, but that we would also influence history itself.
